Business Standard: Akamai Technologies, the company that has powered some of the world’s most visited websites like Rediff, plans to ride on the Indian online boom. As more and more Indian businesses are going online, Akamai, which recently opened a new office in Bangalore, is ramping up its staff by 50 per cent from the current 100.
Akamai is also looking at the Indian music industry, particulraly bollywood, which is going online in a big way. It already provides technological assistance to Rediff’s for its online music offerings. Stuart Spiteri, Director, Asia Pacific, said, “The music industry, particularly the Hindi film world, has not given a serious thought to the issue of rights.”
The company expects India’s online media market to catch up with China’s by 2009.
