Some legal issues have been raised concerning UK broadcaster ITV1’s deal with 3UK, as well as Virgin’s effort. Astonishingly enough, at the heart of the matter is whether the broadcasters have the rights to broadcast advertisements over the new medium. “The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising has raised the potential issue of actors and musicians suing agencies over copyright infringement.” The actors and musicians who’s work is used in the ads may claim the contract only covers the UK and/or television, and sue for copyright infringement if the ads are shown elsewhere.
