NatGeo Advertises Online Using Interactive Game

National Geographic is advertising online to promote one of its shows – Megastructures 2. It tied up with Media2Win to develop a game called Megalinx wherein the user catches falling jigsaw pieces and completes a picture of one of the structures featured in the program. The show covers how major structures were built from scratch, and its first installment runs from 31st July to August 11.
The game is being pushed on Contests2Win, as well as with innovations at Sify and Indiatimes. More at IndianTelevision. I also noticed that there’s a video on the NatGeo site promoting the show, and the Megalinx game has a promotional contest with a trip to Dubai as the prize.
This reaffirms my faith in games as an advertising media – the future of advertising lies in involving the consumer instead of just talking to him. Now if only there was a way of pushing the games. Humour tends to cut through the crap, so a combination of humour and games looks ideal to me. It’ll spread with the word-of-mouth, which will ensure greater credibility.
