Yahoo Music has found a way — temporarily — around the doubled music-to-go price that followed its basement-rate charter subscription. Customers who pay for an annual plan (Yahoo Music Unlimited, $59.88; Yahoo! Music Unlimited To Go, $119.88) with a MasterCard will get the second year free.
It’s part of a two-year promotional deal, according to ClickZ; for this campaign, MasterCard will run banners on Yahoo and some other sites including at least a couple owned by Viacom — parent of rival music service Urge.
I was a charter sub of Yahoo’s portable music plan but dropped it when the renewal fee jumped too high. No idea how many people did the same but an offer like this could make it affordable again. Yes, before we hear from Yahoo, I know it’s still a low price for portable music.
