Financial Express:According to preliminary estimates, Rs. 60 bn will be required to digitise the Indian media by 2015. This includes conversion to digital transmission and receiving systems, including Hi-definition TV, digital cable, mobile telephony and film transmission. The increase in bandwidth and improvement in quality of sound and picture sets a platform for value added services and content creation.
The working group set up to outline the broad agenda is currently estimating required investment from private stakeholders like broadcasters, TV manufacturers and cable companies.
China is currently digitising its services, at a cost of around Rs 48-55 bn, in four phases.
