HeyMath, a Chennai based online maths tutoring company uses innovative, interactive lessons, games and quizzes to make Math student friendly. When I think of Math, I think of rows of students squatting under a tree, monotonously repeating the table of 2, as seen on TV in India; or of dry, functional lessons on DoorDarshan’s National Network. So, this comes across as a pleasant surprise.
HeyMath sends out its lessons to more than 60 schools globally, and charges each student about $100 a year for its lessons. In India, it’s cheaper at $13 a year. HeyMath has been included as an approved learning resource by the department of education in Massachusetts.
They employ 35 people, including maths teachers, programmers and animation and graphic designers, and their first product was a 30 minute interactive Math game. More at BBC News.
I don’t think the potential of games for instructive purposes has been fully tapped, and there’s a huge market of bored students of all ages.
