India Introduces Cable Censorship

Indiantelevision.com:The Information & Broadcasting Ministry issued a notification on August 3rd that “no film or film song or film promo or film trailer or music video or music album or their promos, whether produced in India or abroad, shall be carried through cable service unless it has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) as suitable for unrestricted public exhibition in India.” Until now, Cinema was the only medium in India subject to pre-release censorship. Expect the classifieds to list job opportunities at CBFC because they’ll really have to scale up their operations.
In June, six Indian music channels had been directed to apologise for showing obscene content. They had to display that apology in a scrolling marqee on the channels for three days.
Also, advertisements which violate the code for self regulation for public exhibition, set by the Advertising Standard Council of India shall also not be allowed on air. So it isn’t self regulation anymore.
What else? Guidelines for content are being drafted, and I hear danger signals. Does IPTV come under the purview of the Cable Television (Network) Rules 1994?
