IBM will develop, manage and operate a “Next Generation Service Delivery Platform” (NGSDP) for Bharti Airtel. Airtel is investing over $100 million to create a “platform which will be the gateway to next generation content services for our customers and help us consolidate our leadership position” said Manoj Kohli, President, Bharti Airtel Ltd.
The platform will allow content providers to distribute content, once published, through multiple channels such as SMS, MMS, WAP, Web, etc. They will also be able to test new devices and content services prior to launch. [press release]
This seems to be in line with a Frost & Sullivan recommendation for service providers to focus on value added services as differntiators.
