According to a Frost & Sullivan press release, “Growth in the Asia Pacific consumer telecommunications market will revolve around wireless, IPTV (Internet Protocol television), and other multimedia services.” To this end, service providers in India and China are looking to deploy these technologies, while those in South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong are looking at media rich 3G application to boost revenues. A study conducted by Frost & Sullivan recommends that fixed-line service providers offer bundled value added services as differntiators. The study provides an in-depth analysis of strategies used by leading service providers, including Bharti Airtel, Chunghwa Telecom, KT, PCCW, StarHub, Telstra and True Corporation.
In India, Bharti Airtel has long been focusing on value added services to boost revenues, and once technologies like WiMax, IPTV and 3G are implemented, opportunities for content providers will see a marked increase.
