Earnings: InfoSpace Mobile Revs Up 23 Percent

InfoSpace, the search/directory and mobile content player, reported Q2 numbers, and its profits plunged 94 percent but surprised analysts, who forecast a loss for the quarter. Earnings fell to $1 million, from $16.3 million in the year-ago quarter. Revenues grew 15 percent to $95.8 million, from $83.2 million in year-ago quarter, beating analysts’ average forecast for $91.4 million.
Reuters: The company cautioned that revenues from its online business generally slows during the warmer months of third quarter. Mobile content revenues should rise modestly during the quarter…but it plans to continue investing heavily in its mobile business, “which will increase our overall operating expenses.”
Earnings release: Mobile revenues were $45.5 million in Q2, an increase of $8.4 million or 23 percent from Q2 05. Mobile segment gross profit totaled $17.5 million or 38 percent of mobile revenue for Q2.
Mobile content acquisition and distribution costs rose to $28 million for Q2, compared to $18.8 million in the year-ago quarter.
