South African media giant Naspers Group has merged its two digital/development arms Media24 and MWeb Studios to create 24.com, its new portal, which is being billed as the biggest in the country. The venture is headed-up by CEO Kim Reid. The 24.com stable will include Media 24 Digital, MWEB (in SA, Africa and Thailand), Tencent in China and some American assets.
The portal will include locally relevant search technology, free web-based e-mail, IM, photo albums, blogs, other social networking tools and online shopping in partnership with Kalahari.net.
