SET India lincensing and telephony head Kaushal Modi, in an interview to Indiantelevision.com, explains how the development of new content platforms like Video on Demand (VOD) and IPTV can help grow business for Indian content aggregators by targeting niche consumer segments from the Indian diaspora, irrespective of their size.
Still, he remains cautious: “Speaking about the potential of Indian properties in the international markets, there is a significant Indian diaspora – though not critical enough to drive the business – supporting the trade.”
With these new technologies, he adds, Europe and Africa have opened up to Indian content, and though the preference is for movies, some European channels have shown interest in short (TV) series.
