NYTimes.com: Product Manager, Mobile, NYC

NYTimes.com is looking for an experienced Product Manager, Mobile with strong business skills and product development background to develop its vision and product strategy for mobile content and applications. Specifically, this individual will manage the following: the new NYT WAP site, NYTimes.com premium wireless products, SMS and MMS messaging services, e-Reading platforms for mobile devices.
The ideal candidate will have wide ranging experience and knowledge of the mobile marketplace today, and a keen interest in shaping the marketplace of tomorrow. We are looking for an individual with vision, energy and a passion for innovation, who has both business acumen and creative flair. The individual must be an outstanding communicator, who can conceptualize mobile products of every conceivable type, and understand the path to bring those products to market. This position calls for a self-starter who is comfortable leading cross-functional teams and who is ready to work in a dynamic environment at an innovative company known for the strength of its brand and quality of its products.
Responsibilities:
— Create a vision and product strategy for wireless and distributed platforms for NYTimes.com, including user needs, business objectives and competitive positioning
— Create business plan and present plan for approval to senior management
— Manage cross-functional teams (editorial, marketing, IT, design, sales, etc.) during product development lifecycle and in the implementation of ongoing priorities
— Manage mobility P&L and all other relevant performance metrics (profitability, subscribers, churn, etc.) and communicate to key stakeholders and senior management on monthly basis.
— Collaborate with editorial, design and IT staff to optimize functionality and user experience
— Collaborate with sales and client services to develop new revenue generating products and ad positions.
— Collaborate with marketing to develop and implement marketing plans.
— Stay abreast of the mobile marketplace by attending and participating in conferences; regularly update senior management of marketplace trends and competitive issues
— Develop relationships with leading companies in the mobile hardware, networking, and software applications areas worldwide for potential business and technical collaboration
— Serve as the outward-facing representative of the product in its respective marketplace to ensure the brand and offering maintain high visibility among end users and the trade.
— Deeply understand the nytimes.com audience and how the site can play a larger role in their web usage.
Requirements:
— Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or equivalent. MBA preferred.
— Minimum 5 years of Internet experience with at least two years dedicated to mobile
— Strong understanding of all current mobile business models and mobile technologies
— Well-developed contacts in the mobile marketplace
— Experience in user-centric product development and design
— Strong track record of achieving commercial success from creative endeavors.
— Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams, through influence, coordination and collaboration toward a common goal.
— Experience in sales – either directly or in interfacing with sales on a regular basis.
— A keen ability to multi-task and manage the details while keeping an eye on the big picture.
— Background in or affinity for New York Times-quality journalism.
