A little more detail about AOL’s expanded video service. (Preview screenshot) AOL Video is a cross between a multi-channel distributor and a supercharged programming guide. Paid and ad-supported content from more than 45 VOD channels, a mix of AOL programming and other networks. For instance, In2TV.com’s 10 channels — Toontopia, Dramarama, LOL, etc. — become channels in the new video portal, as does TMZ.com and LAT34.com. The total includes nine VOD channels from MTVN. — AOL Video relies on what they call “extensibility” — the ability to play back on multiple devices, open APIs, modules, etc. That includes co-branded video portal “experiences” via OEMs, broadband providers, etc.
