Cellebrum is claiming a million subscribers to its Background Tone service in India, which plays music in the background of a conversation. According to MobHappy those million subscribers make 3 million downloads per month and change the tones once or twice a month — and there are also religious chants and devotional messages. The service works as a conference call and the users need to dial a prefix before the phone number to get the music to play, otherwise it goes through as a normal call — which eliminates the worry of both parties having conflicting background music. I wonder how often the phrase “I’ll call you back, you have appalling taste in music” is said?
Ringtonia has also linked to SlangTones, which “specializes in voice ringers ringtones straight from the streets, offering kids slangtones from every major city”, in english and spanish.
