And the media is going ga ga over it…the News Corp retret at Pebble Beach is its biggest and most high-powered ever: LAT says that the event will include such political powers as British Prime Minister Tony Blair, former President Clinton and Israeli Vice Premier Shimon Peres. Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton will opine on remaking complex organizations, former Vice President Al Gore will riff on climate change, and U2’s Bono will deliver a keynote address titled “The Power of One.
FT: The Pebble Beach event — masterminded by Murdoch, who wants his executives to “contemplate the future of the world” — is seen as a sign of the 75-year-old’s new-found enthusiasm for the media. It is the first such gathering for eight years – previously News Corp used to hold company meetings every two or three years.
Some more on the political implications of Blair being at this meeting, here in the Guardian.
A copy of the agenda at the three day conference/retreat was obtained by LAT and it is posted here as PDF…on day one, July 31, a panel about the “MySpace Generation”: “A live focus group and instant response dial session to explore the attitudes and lifestyles of our new consumer…a presentation conducted by pollster and researcher Frank Lutz with 20 students. INtroduction By Ross Levinsohn.”
