Digital home and office networking company NetGear has bought out SkipJam, the digital home audio and video networking/software firm, for a total of $9 million. Part of the money is structured as a retention incentive program for the acquired engineering team (meaning there’s an earnout).
A review of Skipjam’s iMedia Center is here in PCMag. The center plays and distributes media content– music, photos, TV, video, and even DVDs– throughout the house without a PC.
The acquisition expands NetGear’s digital home entertainment portfolio, on the software side. SkipJam’s technology will form the basis of future NetGear multimedia products, including media centers, media players, and audio players, the company said.
SkipJam was founded in 2002 and is based in Port Chester, New York. Michael Spilo, CEO of SkipJam, is becoming NetGear’s VP of Engineering for Multimedia Products.
