New CDN Panther Express Gets $6 Million Funding

And you thought you would never hear any more about CDNs getting funded…sooo 1997. No, No, the growth of broadband and video content online means some real infrastructure build out now. Here’s one: Panther Express, a new-ish content delivery network founded by former Doubleclick founder-CEO Kevin Ryan, has received $6 million in funding from Greylock Partners. Based in NYC and founded in 2005 by Ryan and Dwight Merriman, former CEO and CTO of DoubleClick, Panther Express does what CDN does, without requiring long-term contracts or monthly minimums.
SiliconBeat: Merriman has developed routing technology that makes Panther Express speedier than the rest of the second tier companies populating the market, even if it is not quite as quick as Akamai. For instance, it is faster than Limelight and Mirror Image…Panther Express has already scored twenty customers, he says, but declined to name them.
