BSkyB Buys Rest Of Online Publishing Firm MyKindplace

No, it is not MySpace-scale, but pretty high-profile in UK: Satellite and now broadband provider BSkyB, controlled by News Corp, has bought the full stake in online publishing, design and social networking company Mykindaplace, which Sky had also invested in 2000 (and owned about 49 percent of the company prior to this).
Founded in 1999, Mykindaplace has a two publications aimed at teenagers, one for girls, and another boys, Monkeyslum, that launched in September 2004. At the other extreme end of the age range, they also published Livingit in January 2006 aimed at those 45 and above.
With the purchase of mykindaplace, Sky will also gain Burst Interactive, which currently handles the Skyone.co.uk site for Sky.
Also, on the sale price: Eurovestech divested its 5.6 percent stake in Mykindaplace for 0.5 million GBP cash last month…based on that, the sale price for the 51 percent of the company would be in the 5 million GBP range, plus/minus, though it might not be as straightforward calculation/extrapolation as that.
Brand Republic: Sky insisted that although its sites may have community elements, it is not seeking to ape MySpace.
