Star India is giving a “new thrust” to its internet business in India and has put its executive vice-president Ajay Vidyasagar in charge of this role. Vidyasagar’s brief is to develop Star’s various internet properties as a full-fleged revenue opportunity, which is in sync with Newscorp’s global thrust on the internet business (read Myspace). Vidyasagar has primarily been the head of marketing and communication till now, although he looked after the net division from a marketing point of view. Now the difference is he will look at net as a revenue generating division.
Viren Popli will continue to look ater the mobile or telecom business. “Ajay will focus on net while I on telecom. We work together to maximise synergies on content, technology, marketing, ad sales etc.” Popli told ContentSutra. Both Sagar and Popli will report to Sameer Nair, Star India’s CEO.
Meanwhile it’s pertinent to note that Myspace is going international and India is one of the 11 countries it will have a presence in the near future.
