This should be an interesting move, as a mainstream play: South Korea’s top online search and gaming site and company NHN has opened up offices in Mountain View, CA, and plans to roll out game services targeted at users 18 to 34 years old. NHN runs Naver.com, a site we’ve covered here before…it is the biggest search and gaming site there.
NHN USA has 50 employees and is expected to have more than 80 by end of the year, according to the company. In an indication of its ambitions, both original NHN founders, NHN Global CEO Beom-Su Kim and NHN USA CEO Tae-Sik Moon have relocated to the U.S. to prepare for NHN’s entry into the American game market.
Korea Times: It seems the U.S, launch would be its recently-launched beta casual games site Ijjii.
Before NHN, several other South Korean game companies like NCSoft and Webzen have been increasing investment in the United States. But NHN’s ijji.com is the first one to open a game portal site while other firms have focused on selling packaged games.
