Bizjournals.com: Online Content From Print Pubs For Print Subs Only

Effective Monday, American City Business Journals is cutting off open access to print articles posted online at the 42 local sites that are part of the bizjournals.com domain. Instead, the articles and other content will be available only to print subscribers who “link” their print accounts to an online account. It’s being pitched as a “new benefit for our print subscribers.” Here’s an explanation from the Phoenix Business Journal; no idea whether it will be accessible tomorrow. According to the article, only limited print content has been available online until now; content access appears to be linked to the specific edition. No online-only subscriptions and apparently no way to subscribe across editions for a special rate. (The idea of buying online access without getting the paper conjures up notions of Jack Nicholson ordering toast in “Five Easy Pieces.”)
