Coruscant Tec May Be On The Block

You must be wondering what would have happened to the mobile content company Coruscant Tec since the founders (Ajay Adiseshann and Probir Roy) have now moved over to PayMate, the mobile payment company that has been spun off from Coruscant. The update is that Adiseshann and Roy will no more manage Coruscant – which is primarily focused on mobile content. They would be focusing fulltime on PayMate.
I asked Roy about the status of Coruscant. He told me that they are in the process of transitioning the management of the company (it apparently employs about 30 people – fulltime and freelance). It could also mean they are open to / in the process of selling off the company.
Coruscant was started in 2004, and they initially had thought of two lines of businesses – m-commerce and content. But mobile commerce was too early at the time, so the entire focus went in to content business. However, they simultaneously incubated PayMate and the Coruscant revenues bankrolled the business.
One thing is clear Adiseshann and Roy are not anymore upbeat about the content business as much as they are with the mobile payment business. It makes sense too. Content business is very crowded and size will play a big role from now on. Mobile payment is of course a new area in India, and it makes sense to dedicate the management bandwidth to something where you have a higher chance to make it big.
