Zander on Moto’s Music Phone and Razr

Motorola announced its Q2 earnings today, and in the earnings call, CEO Ed Zander waxed rhapsodic about Razr, and other music phones. SOme extracts from the transcript by SeekingAlpha.
“Since Q3 2005, we have now shipped nearly 10 million music-enabled handsets, as many as any other competitor, including new additions during Q2, such as the RAZR V3i with iTunes, the RAZR V3m and ROKR E2. In 3G, we continue to grow with units up 55% quarter over quarter.
Yesterday we announced a major milestone; the shipment of our 50-millionth RAZR handset. We could not be more proud, and 50 million is only the beginning.
Make no mistake about it, RAZR has established itself as a brand and rivals, I believe, things like iPod and Xbox as the top consumer electronics brand around the world. We intend to strengthen that brand in all geographies in the coming months and quarters and years ahead. It is the gold standard of what consumers expect in mobile handset design. It is the most imitated product. Imitate does not allow you to innovate and what we are doing is innovate. We think it is hotter than ever worldwide. Stay tuned for seeing some new exciting products in not only the weeks, but the months and quarters ahead.”
