Says this story on Variety.com. Time Warner-owned Cartoon Network is working on a multiplayer online game featuring characters from “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends,” “Ben 10,” and others. Characters from the network’s “Adult Swim” lineup will not be in the game’s universe. Scheduled for release in 2008, CN is working with Korean developer Grigon Entertainment. Players would pay a subscription fee and interact in an online universe.
Game development can cost more than $20 million, so this move is a major commitment on CN’s part.
Meanwhile, another TW property, gaming and entertainment network service GameTap has launched its head-to-head gameplay and IM features, as well as new content for its Animation channel.
Time Warner’s forays into gaming also include a recent investment in Glu, a mobile gaming publisher.
