India To Overtake China In Net Mobile Subscriber Addition This Year

Financial Times: India, of course, is a fast growing telecom market. But this is the first time analysts view India as a more lucrative growth market than China. China adds about 5.6 million mobile subscribers a month, while India adds about 4.25 million (going by the numbers for May). “India has not yet surpassed China in terms of monthly net additions, but it should happen this year,” said Kobita Desai, principal telecommunications analyst at Gartner. “It’s quite likely to happen in September or October,” she said. “This is something we’re anticipating.” Chinese mobile market is expected to grow 15 per cent to reach 432 million by year-end, while India’s is to grow at 68 per cent to touch 128 million this year.
In another five years, China’s mobile services industry will grow at a compounded annual rate of 11%, compared with 31% for India.
