Indian Media Houses Oppose Restrictions On Cross Holdings

Business Standard: Indian media regulations will continue to be investor unfriendly. The draft Broadcast Bill will have restrictions on cross media holdings. According to the proposed Bill, no broadcasting company would be allowed to own more than 20 per cent in any other broadcasting company like radio or a television distribution company like a cable operator or a direct to home (DTH) operator.
But Indian media houses do not support it. They have urged the government to remove restrictions on cross media holdings. The representatives of leading media companies – under the aegis of the Indian Media Group – met up with the information and broadcasting secretary said that all news media be brought under the Press Council Act of 1967 after amending it.
