You’re reading it here first: MTV has appointed Courtney Holt to a new position of heading all its digital music efforts. He will be the new executive VP of digital music and media, reporting to Van Toffler. The official announcement will happen later today.
At MTV, he will oversee digital (including mobile) initiatives for MTV Networks’ Music & Logo Group, including the MTV, VH1 and CMT music brands; Logo; and Urge, its recently-launched digital music service. He will also work with the teams who direct the day-to-day operations of each brand’s online and mobile properties such as MTV’s “Overdrive,” VH1’s “VSpot,” mtvU’s “Uber”, and CMT’s soon-to-launch “Loaded”.
Prior to this, Holt executive VP of new media, creative and strategic marketing at Interscope Geffen A&M. He had been at Interscope for a while, and under his management there, the company has been among the first labels to embrace marketing through MySpace, and started a joint record called MySpace Records. Interscope is also involved with Web community start-up Doppelganger, which has virtual nightclub called the Pussycat Dolls Lounge, and the music being promoted is Interscope’s music.
The appointment is not connected to the recent departure of MTV’s chief digital officer Jason Hirschhorn…that was a corporate level position, and this is more of an operational level position.
