The McClatchy Co. (MNI) turned in 2Q06 earnings of $44.1 million, or 94 cents per share, — flat year over year but ahead of the average 88-cent EPS estimated by Thomson First Call. Revenue was up slightly to $304.2 million compared to $302..8 million in 2Q05, aided by a 1.3 percent increase in advertising revenues. The company forecasts “continued strong growth” for online advertising but no details.
The earnings release comes a week after the completion of the Knight-Ridder acquisition but the close took place two days into the fiscal third quarter so KR isn’t included.
