The International Herald Tribune has launched an audio service (here), where a text to voice program reads the articles. These can be listened to online or downloaded to mobile phones or iPods. It’s free, and not perfect — IHT said there are still some bugs to iron out. The service is intended to be ad-sponsored.
“No advertisers are on board yet, but we’ve got a couple of folks who are interested,” she said. “We would probably put on five to 10 seconds of an audio ad, and we’re considering doing it on every third or fifth article.”
