Telephia has released some statistics on the preferences of mobile gamers on 3G in the UK. From the release:
“Telephia’s Q2 2006 U.K. 3G Subscriber Report shows that 61 percent or nearly two-thirds of U.K. 3G mobile game players downloaded a Puzzle/Strategy mobile game, while Retro/Arcade games secured a 45 percent penetration rate. Action/Adventure and Card/Casino games secured 42 and 39 percent of downloads, respectively, followed by Trivia/Word (32%) and Sports/Racing (30%) games.”
The most prefered mobile game type was those that are downloaded to play offline (71% penetration), and I was interested to note that online turn-based multiplayer games are as popular as online real-time multiplayer games, both grabbing 7% penetration. Online single player games had 5% penetration and location based games 3%.
