A free WiFi service is going to be installed in New York’s Central Park, Union Square Park and Corona Flushing Meadows and other locations, paid for by private companies. Wi-Fi Salon, the company setting it up, plans to generate revenue from advertising and sponsorship. Nokia, on the other hand, plans to give away free content to people who access the service from a Nokia device, a pretty straightforward promotional effort of using content to encourage people to buy Nokia devices.
“For Nokia this is something that really emphasises our N-Series,” said Nokia communications manager Camilla Gragg…adding that “AM New York, a newspaper, will provide content”.
