Publishers Clearing House Acquires Search Engine Blingo

Sweepstakes and direct marketing company Publishers Clearing House has acquired search engine Blingo, to extend its sweepstakes reach into the search arena. Mill Valley, CA-based Blingo’s search engine has a twist…it awards sweepstakes randomly to people searching on its site, and has awarded over 22,000 prizes (from movie tickets to iPods to Visa gift cards) since launching in late 2004. (Sounds similar to iWon, now owned by IAC)
Blingo monetizes through contextual ads and uses Google’s search engine to power its own.
PCH and Blingo expect to raise the bar with regard to Blingo’s prize offerings. Blingo focuses on smaller instant win prizes, while PCH remains famous for its Super Prizes of $10 million. Blingo will likely increase the number of prizes it gives away each day, as well as the size of prizes to include things like cars or large cash prizes.
