Chinese 3G Spending Could Reach $2.5 B — Analysys

Analysys has come out pretty bullish about the Chinese 3G market, claiming that the first round of investment this year could reach 10-20 billion yuan (US$1.25 – 2.5 billion), and the first phase would have to reach 10 or 20 million lines to meet user demand. “”If China Mobile gets the first license, it will have enough capability and capital to carry out the construction of 3G network. If China Telecom gets the license, it will probably solve the problem of capital gap by indirect financing,” Cui Xiaolong, analyst from Analysys International, said.”
As far as I’m aware the world (or the mobile industry, at least) is still waiting for China to issue a 3G license. Optimism that the Chinese Government would do so even though TD-SCDMA isn’t up to scratch appears to have been misplaced…
