Internet Companies Advertising Again!

Exchange4media.com has something here on a campaign by Redff.com to promote their Rediffmail (an aside: I am not a great fan of their Rediffmailpro; because their customer service sucks). Yahoo India has been doing it for a while extensively in print and visual media. They have even roped in bollywood item (ex)queen Malaika Arora for various Yahoo campaigns. Naukri.com also spends big bucks on advertising (remember the Hari Sadu one?). It looks like internet companies have started spending big money to promote themselves. Now they have started making real money (not just projections based on eyeballs as in bust 1.0). I guess it’s ok.
I remember 2000-01 period when dot coms splurged crores of rupees on advertising. The ill-fated finance and trading portal Hometrade.com had created headlines when it roped in the then super star Hrithik Roshan, Sharukh Khan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for a series of ad campaigns. Indya.com (then owned by Pradeep Kar of Microland) bought the entire frontpage of The Times of India (I am sure it would have easily cost $250K). Anyways, good to see internet companies advertising again. Because, now they can afford it.
