Discovery Networks: VP, Interactive Media – Travel Media; Silver Spring, MD (DC metro area)

Discovery Communications, Inc., the leading global real-world media and entertainment company with an exciting array of TV networks such as Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and TLC, is seeking a VP, Interactive Media to join us in our headquarters in Silver Spring, MD.
Position Summary:
The Vice President, Interactive Media for Travel Media is responsible for partnering with the EVP Discovery Travel Media and GM Travel Channel, US in creating the overall editorial direction of Travel Media’s websites, short-form video, broadband platform, and e-commerce. Additionally, working closely with the SVP Marketing and Product Development and DCI’s e-Commerce team, the VP Interactive Media will develop and oversee Travel Media’s eCommerce offerings. The position will work closely with New Media and US Networks Production in ensuring that the execution of content creation and distribution reflects the creative vision for the brand.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Lead a team of interactive and short-form video writers/producers to create engaging, high-quality travel-related content and applications in support of Travel Media’s multiplatform businesses objectives.
2) Advance and implement Travel Media’s new media strategy, including broadband initiatives, video delivery, interactive online applications and integration of assets across both DCI and the entire Travel Media group.
3) Be responsible for leading and developing the New Media team within a matrix environment, creating a company culture that attracts the best people and ensures a highly motivated and effective team; strive for best practice and continuously talent scout to build the recruitment pipeline.
4) Keep Corporate New Media abreast of Discovery Travel Media’s objectives, strategy, and content technical requirements regarding the web, mobile and broadband as well as any new technology products and platforms.
5) Monitor the execution of editorial decisions and the technical support provided by Corporate New Media and IT in support of Discovery Travel Media. Provide input and support to continuously refine and improve the consumer experience.
6) Work closely with the Commerce division to identify business opportunities in the e-commerce space and partner with the team in the creation of the design, development, and ongoing management of the necessary systems to support Travel Media’s eCommerce needs.
7) Implement and utilize appropriate systems and metrics to continuously improve product usability, the consumer experience, and revenue generation.
8) Create and manage to an effective business plan for Travel Media’s New Media and eCommerce products, ensuring appropriate budgets and resources.
9) Continuously keep ahead of new media trends in the media and travel industries. Identify new business opportunities that can be assessed and acted upon by the Growth & Integration team.
10) Manage tenders and licenses with third party content providers and organizations.
11) Perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
* Minimum of 10 years management experience in the media industry with specific expertise in creative and editorial leadership.
* Business acumen and demonstrated experience in creating revenue-producing web and broadband products and services.
* Exceptional communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to build cross-functional relationships and translate business objectives into action.
* Expert knowledge of content management systems and related web publishing applications.
* A passion for travel.
* Experience with evaluating proposals, RFPs, licensing agreements, and third party vendors and content providers.
* Experience or ability to manage within a global brand environment.
