The Economic Times: Reliance Communications may not be able to provide both GSM and CDMA services at the same time in the same circle. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has held such a view on a proposal from Reliance which wanted to move over to CDMA following a royalty dispute with Qualcomm. However, DoT is willing to allow a phased rollout – so, as Reliance vacates its CDMA spectrum, it will be allocated spectrum for GSM service. In short, Reliance’s GSM plans may not be that easy since it’s going to confuse subscribers (it has 19 million all over India). We will keenly watch Reliance’s move.
