Lots of debate in the blogs about PayperPost, but no, this post is not about that…rather a better way to monetize blogs, through age-old affiliate sales. MeCommerce is a venture-backed service (backed by August Capital’s Andy Rappaport) that allows bloggers to insert product listings within their blogs and keep 50 per cent of the profits form sales, reports FT. The software allows bloggers to recommend music, books, DVDs and T-shirts and invite readers to instantly purchase the items without leaving the blog (that’s a smart move, compared to say other affiliate services).
Yobie Benjamin, co-founder, does not expect the product-serving technology to turn the company into the next Google, but he does think there is a gap in the market between what is currently available from Ebay and Amazon.
The service is the handiwork of GoodStorm.com, a company founded after Katrina to aid nonprofit fund raising effort.
Meanwhile, eBay says it wants to do something similar now. Also see this Fool.com story on the new service.
