This is very interesting and I wish other operators in the industry could follow such an example (but for sure won’t): according to the latest issue of the “Mobile Media” newsletter from Informa, DoCoMo is preparing to launch a full-track-download service, through Imode, with links to several music stores on its 3G network. It will receive little direct revenue from the sale of of these songs. Rather, it hopes to drive traffic by hosting several content
providers, fostering competition and giving customers a wider choice of music.
Napster, Yahoo and Rhapsody are among the stores preparing to be included on the I-mode portal in Q3. Collaborators reject the notion that the profusion of stores will confuse consumers.
