CBS will have more flexibility with off-network content — downloads, VOD, streaming, etc. — under the terms of a revenue-sharing agreement with the network’s affiliates. Technically, what they’ve done is agreed to agree, creating a framework that will include affiliates in potential profit from additional revenue streams. The deal includes three more years of affiliate contributions to cover part of of the network’s NFL rights package.
Fox already cut a simlar deal with affiliates, while ABC still has to. NBC is going a different route setting up a joint company with affiliates to exploit new media revenues.
