In-Stat has predicted that the mobile broadcast TV market will grow from 3.4 million to 102 million by 2010. The biggest problem is listed as getting spectrum for the service, and In-Stat notes: “Spectrum availability may determine which of four standards is chosen, and also impacts the business case for the deployment of a network.” Most markets will only be able to support two networks, according to In-Stat.
The article goes on to say that: “The report claimed that mobile TV will be adopted at different rates in different regions. Asia-Pacific will lead the way with 95.1 million anticipated subscribers by 2011, followed by Europe with 68.7 million subscribers and The Americas with 9.1 million.” These figures obviously don’t add up to 102 million, and they’re not cited in In-Stats’ press release.
