Neopets is having another crack at mobile, teaming up with In-Fusio to release a game which allows people to look after their Neopets on their mobile phone. For $3 per month users “will be able to import their pets to the phone and use a simplified version of the Web site, pressing the phone keys to provide nourishment to the virtual critters. Users can also play simple games and explore a virtual land called Lutari Island”. Everything the users does on their mobile phone gets ported to their online account.
The article notes that the majority of people who play the game are below the age of 17, and therefore are less likely to have discretionary spending on any mobile phone they may own. The app will be exclusive to Cingular members for the first three months. MTVN plans to roll out Neopets Mobile in seven different languages to the rest of Neopets’ more than 30 million members.
Clarification: The licensing deal was announced last year. The last (different) Neopet mobile effort by Jamdat didn’t do too well…
