The most obvious result: more sites looking for more ways to make money from advertising. Today’s niche: sites that offer advice about shopping to attract high-end shoppers and the advertisers who want to reach them.
— Edmonds.com president Jeremy Anwyl tells Bob Tedeschi revenue for the auto research site has grown about 50 percent annually for the last six years and this year sales probably would be double the 2005 number. He has to keep investing in new technologies to compete with Google.
— Launched late last year, Zillow.com is already in the top 10 of comScore-tracked real estate sites; it’s #9. Zillow preisdent Lloyd Frink: “… it became quickly apparent to us that there’s a bigger opportunity in providing information than in having a ‘Buy Now’ button for real estate.”
