Mobile Games In Korea — Too Successful?

Mobile games are doing very well in Korea — “KTF launched the first phone-based online role-playing game Imo: The World of Magic on June 8. The company said more than 42,000 mobile users have downloaded the game with the number of peak-time users exceeding 1,000, only after 10 days of service.” KTF will charge about US$5 per month for the game, and SK Telecom will launch the game as well.
No complaints about that, but there are concerns in Sth Korea about people becoming addicted to online massively multiplayer games (there have been reports of people dying because of this, but its hard to judge the veracity of the reports) and there are concerns that mobile multiplayer games will only exacerbate things.
“Some users play the game even in the middle of the night. They complain they need a broader game map than we currently have,” said Park Sung-jin, public relations manager of the company. “The way they play the game is beyond our expectations.”
