Mark Cuban-Dan Rather Deal Would Not Include Broadband

Mark Cuban continues to match money with an interest in journalism. … The NYT has an intriguing story detailing a possible deal in the works between Mark Cuban and Dan Rather. According to the newsman, Cuban’s company made Rather, who is in the midst of separating from CBS News, an offer to be host and producer of a one-hour weekly news program for HDNet; Rather would have complete control. Given the emphasis on multiplatform deals these days, I asked Cuban by email if the Rather project would include broadband. The answer: “We don’t compete with our customers.” HDNet, which launched in 2001, is carried by cable operators, DirecTV and Dish.
Asked if the NYT story was on target or had any mistakes, the reply was “no comment.”
