Om Malik, the senior correspondent for Business 2.0 and blogger at, is leaving his editorial job and going full time with his popular blog. He has also raised some seed money through True Ventures, the new-ish VC firm which also invested in blog tool firm Automattic (the commercial avatar that came out of WordPress blogging tool). He’s not disclosing the amount of funding….True Ventures general partners Jon Callaghan will come on the board.
Om’s blog is among the most popular in Silicon Valley….he writes mainly broadband and other Internet-related developments, and I’m assuming he will expand his site in those areas. His site is also part of Federated Media, the blog ad network founded by John Battelle, though as with all blogs in the network, it is a non-exclusive deal.
SiliconBeat has some more details, here. Om will be posting about it on his blog later. Om’s post is up now, and he explains: “Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach”.
Disclaimer: Om’s my dear friend, and we’ve talked on and off for the last couple of years about his striking it out solo. I’ve known about this for a while but was waiting for him to announce it…Valleywag posted a leaked B2.0 memo on Om leaving.
