Softbank began its rebranding process on saturday, beginning the process of removing the Vodafone brand from Japan (there’s an image at the Eurotechnology blog). The newsletter goes on to say that a Softbank wants to rebrand quickly so that “the iPod partnership with Apple, and other successes (are )attached to the new “SoftBank Mobile” brand”, although the iPod deal has been denied.
There’s an interesting quote about what Vodafone did get out of its Japanese investment:
“As a result of these interactions, Vodafone could bring J-Phone’s J-Sky mobile internet service to Europe, which was adapted for European conditions and rebranded “Vodafone Live!”. There would be no “Vodafone Live!” in Europe without Vodafone’s acquisition of J-Phone (including JSky). Vodafone also brought SHARP and Toshiba mobile handsets to Europe.”
