So says Guardian…looks like things are moving fast in the sale/auction proceedings AOL’s UK arm…it says that BkyB (controlled by News Corp) and BT are expected to emerge as frontrunners for AOL UK after today’s preliminary deadline.
After BT and the merged cable companies NTL and Telewest, AOL is the third-largest ISP in the UK with 2.2 million customers, some 1.3 million of whom use broadband.
The initial bids are expected to come in between 600 million GBP and 1 billion GBP, though the lower range seems more likely, because of competitive pricing pressures. Much of the pricing pressure comes from phone/telecom retailer Carphone, which last week announced 340,000 new customers for the “free” broadband deal launched in April.
