Verizon Wireless is launching a mobile chaperone service to let parents see the location of their children — or more accurately, their children’s phone. Initially the service will only be available for parents who buy their kids the Migo phone, which has four buttons, but Verizon may expand the service later to handsets popular among teenagers. “The Verizon service costs $9.99 a month for just the location-viewing feature and rises to $19.99 a month if the parent also opts for a boundary-setting feature. Sprint charges about $9.99 for its service.”
This is probably a bit more than it cost to provide the GPS-based service, but I assume it’s priced to the market.
