Mobile Ticketing Could Beat The Touts — Nokia

Nokia’s mobile ticketing system got a good review from the writer of this article, who used it for a Guns ‘n’ Roses gig (I thought they’d broken up…) and it seems to be a popular choice: “According to Nokia, 60% of the people who bought tickets for last night’s gig through the Ticketrush website chose the mobile option.”
Simon Lloyd, head of marketing for Nokia UK, is quoted as saying that mobile ticketing could spell the end of ticket touts (scalpers). “It’s a secure environment, so you can’t pass these tickets on and can’t hack in. Paper tickets are always open to abuse.” That’s not strictly accurate, the article goes on to say that you can indeed pass the ticket on, as many times as you like, in fact. Which is the problem — they only work once, so if the guy you buy the mobile ticket from has already sold it to a bunch of people, you’re out of luck. And money.
There’s also talk of further marketing to the ticket buyers, or further promoting depending on how you want to spin it. The company has someone’s phone number and knows where they’re going to be and what they’re going to be doing, so it “can push offers down to them, like another barcode to get a free drink at the bar, or a free t-shirt or even a free song or ringtone download from one of the acts that’s playing.”
